Natalie Chow, the artist behind NMC Design Studio, has a Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts and a Bachelors of Science in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington (Seattle).
Their artwork is inspired by nostalgia and identity – taking their childhood memories of growing up outdoors in the cascade mountains, indoors playing video and tabletop games, and their connection to their queer and asian identity – and creating artwork that feels nostalgic and comfortable. They are interested in how artwork can move from the artist’s viewpoint and adapt to the viewer, focusing on customizable and interactive artwork and zines. They work in a variety of mediums including printmaking and digital vector illustration. They find that they love working in bold layers of color and gravitate towards the mediums that also work in layers like linoleum block printing, screen printing, vector, and risograph printing.
