Stoner Zines is a trans/nonbinary, AuDHD, Jewish, and queercrip owned art business. Everything you see is created by October Stoner (ze/he/it), a wheelchair user who grew up in the Bay Area, and advocates for quality of life for disabled people and trans people everywhere. Hirs art includes zines, stickers, patches, mask chains, bone sculptures, and tattoos! It makes zines about all sorts of personal and educational (and abstract!) subjects. A lot of its zines blend personal with educational made with the hope of helping others understand concepts that aren’t taught in the mainstream.
October creates a few series of zines on trans identities and culture, disability information, and autistic experiences and struggles. It has also made catharsis zines about more difficult topics, like manipulative friend breakups and sexual assault. Transvestia and What is… are two of hirs well known series – the former a revival of an iconic queer magazine from the 60s and the latter, an educational series on a variety of topics all related to the autistic community and experience. He just released his newest zines: Sitting in Style, a thick 42
page tome on wheelchair fashion, styling, and DIY modifications set in a scrapbooking perzine; The Ugly Laws (red), one of two pocket zines on the history of the local and state ordinances that spread throughout the US from 1897 to 1974, and; The Ugly Laws (blue), the second pocket zine on the impact of the Ugly Laws on the disabled and unhoused communities, from 1867 to the close future.
October has a monthly penpal club that folks can join at a variety of financial levels. Each month, it sends out a new zine, a new sticker, sticker sheet, or sticker pack, and a sweet letter on the theme of the month. Themes are chosen by the subscribers, and subscribers also get access to blog posts, updates, and behind-the-scenes progress on all of October’s art.
